The easiest way to buy a new computer
5/18/2007
And then there's the cash conundrum. Paying for a new laptop or desktop computer in one shot might just make your bank account buckle (or your spouse to seek legal advice).
Fortunately, there is a simple solution. It's called Total Internet packages from Bell.
Available in Ontario and Quebec at select Best Buy and Future Shop locations, Total Internet packages help you choose a brand-new HP computer – without having to understand any of the technical jargon – and lets you spread out low monthly payments that show up on your regular Bell bill.
And it's not called Total Internet package for nothing: included in your monthly payment is high-speed DSL Internet access, powered by Bell Sympatico.
To recap, you get a new PC and Internet together on your existing monthly Bell bill.
This falls into the "why hasn't someone thought of this earlier?" category.
This HP Pavilion laptop is one of the Total Internet packages being offered. |
How it works
Visit a participating Future Shop or Best Buy store and select from one of a couple of HP/Compaq computer options, such as a portable laptop or stationary desktop model. You can also pick from an entry-level PC or a super powerful computer. And don't worry, these HP machines have been pre-built with care and consideration to help take the guesswork out of the equation for you – even if you don't know your Celeron from your Centrino. Keep in mind, Best Buy and Future Shop locations may offer slightly different computer configurations.
Have fun playing around with these PCs. Ask questions. Go nuts. When you find one you like, find out if you need any peripherals, too, such as one of those fancy printer/scanner/copier thingamajigs, which you can buy with all the money you just saved on your new computer.
You walk out of the store with the computer, but the Sympatico DSL modem will be shipped to your door in a few days. And should you need some help setting it all up you won't be left out in the cold as the Total Internet package includes HP award-winning technical support reps who are standing by – just in case.
OK, so how much?
Depending on the model you choose, your monthly cost for the PC and Internet will be $59.95, $69.95 or $79.95.
Considering high-speed Sympatico DSL on its own costs $49.95 a month, for just $10 more per month you could have a brand-new PC, as well. Would you really miss $10 a month? Exactly.
